Midnight Munchies

Looking for a healthy late time snack?

Try a little protein. Foods high in protein burn more calories when you digest them which can help increase metabolism while you’re sleeping. Try a little low fat string cheese or non-fat Greek yogurt.

Overnight Oatmeal

Here’s a quick breakfast that you can actually make the night before:

Overnight Oatmeal

 

  • 1/2 cup slow cook oats
  • 1/2 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup low fat or fat free milk
  • dash of vanilla extract
  • dash of cinnamon
  • honey-to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh berries
  • 1 Tbsp. walnuts

 

  1. Mix oats, yogurt and milk in bowl. Cover and chill overnight.
  2. In the morning mix honey, vanilla extract, cinnamon and berries in with oats.
  3. Top with nuts

Strong Bones

Here’s Some interesting news from Men’s Health Magazine:

Did you know that Prunes are one of the most effective fruits for reversing bone loss and preserving bone mass, according to Bahram Arjmandi, Ph.D., R.D., chairman of the department of nutrition, food and exercise sciences at Florida State University.

Prunes have unique polyphenols with antioxidant properties that help fight osteoporosis.  Shoot for three prunes a day, with a glass of water to keep the fiber and sugar alcohol from dehydrating you.
